Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this training for? Mental health professionals including social workers, psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, youth workers and other clinicians. Do I need prior experience with experiential therapy? No. The training is suitable for clinicians new to experiential methods, as well as experienced practitioners looking to expand their therapeutic repertoire. Can Small Figures Work be integrated with my current therapeutic approach? Yes. It is designed to complement existing modalities including narrative, solution-focused, interpersonal, psychodynamic, relational, systemic, trauma-focused and EMDR approaches. Is this approach suitable for trauma work? Yes, when used skilfully and appropriately. The training includes guidance on pacing, safety, regulation and clinical discernment when working with trauma presentations. What if my clients struggle to verbalise emotions or inner experience? This is where Small Figures Work is particularly valuable — using figurines to make internal experience visible, accessible and open to therapeutic exploration. What happens during the training? The training combines teaching, live demonstration, guided experiential practice, discussion and reflection on clinical application in a supportive small group environment limited to 12 participants. Will I leave with practical tools I can use in practice? Yes. Participants leave with practical frameworks, experiential skills and greater confidence in applying the method within their own clinical work. Which age groups can I use it with? Small Figures Work is most commonly used with adults and can also be adapted for adolescents, couples, families and group settings where clinically appropriate. Is there a refresher course available? Yes. A one-day Refresher and Practice Day is available for clinicians who have completed the foundation training and wish to deepen and consolidate their practice.
